The sixth edition of the International Festival of Digital Arts and New Media, Athens Video Art Festival, took place in May 2010 at multispace «Technopolis» of Municipality of Athens and the Greek Film Museum. More than 2700 artists both from Greece and abroad submitted their artworks and more than 13000 visitors honored it with their presence. In its context, it included several categories such as Video Art, Video Installations, Installation Art, Performance Art, Web Art, Animation and Digital Image.
During the sixth realization of the festival, the public had the opportunity to watch rare works about Andy Warhol’s life and artistry, touch interactive installations, enjoyed for the first time the values of 3D technology, watched more than thirty hours of continuous screenings of great Video Art and Animation works, enjoyed exclusive footage and special guests for not only academic tributes but also some of the most famous festivals of new media from around the globe, viewed a special conceptual module entitled «Feel Free to Feel Green» that hosted ecologically sensitive works, an interactive animation workshop in which students could create their first animated video and finally for the closure of this cycle the public danced with the music of: Νoisily, Εxposed by Οbservers, Rous, Ζebra Τracks, Τhe Callas, Τransistor, Ska Βangies, SugahSpank and Mikro.
Athens Video Art Festival 2010 presented great festivals from abroad through screenings of exclusive video footage and special guests: In – Edit Festival Musical Documental de Barcelona (Spain), Transmediale (Germany), REC (Spain), Orebro Video Art Festival (Sweden), Cologne Off (Germany), Festival International De Videoarte De Camaguey (Cuba)
Art Director of In Edit Beefeater Festival Musical Documental de Barcelona, Cristian Pascual, presented the story of it and the awarded music documentaries screened during its annual edition. The documentaries featured in Athens Video Art Festival 2010 were the awarded «Still Bill», the historical «Tonite let’s all make love in London» and «Johnny Cash’s America».
Athens Video Art Festival opened its program with the presentation of the Department of Graphic Arts of the Technological and Educational Institute of Athens, and especially the comprehensive presentation of the Motion Design course with the aim of informing the public about the evolution in the field of Animation. In addition, internationally acclaimed animator Hlias Sounas realized a special animation workshop.
The Department of Plastic Arts and Sciences of Art of the University of Ioannina realized a presentation of the Department lapping for the third year to the invitation of Athens Video Art Festival and expanding this collaboration. The University of Ioannina displayed at the Greek Film Museum Video Installations and Installation Art by its students.Furthermore, the Department of Art and Design of Manchester Metropolitan University presented a compilation of works by postgraduate students from the whole range of digital arts.
