The fourth edition of the International Festival of Digital Arts and New Media, Athens Video Art Festival, took place in April 2008 at the cultural multispace Technopolis of Municipality of Athens.
More than 1350 artists both from Greece and abroad submitted their artworks, and more than 12000 visitors honored it with their presence.
In the context of it, apart from the categories of Video Art, Video Installations, Installation Art and Performance Art, the festival presented some of the most important festivals from abroad: Transmediale (Germany) and Cologne OFF (Germany). A special tribute to modern Swedish Video Art and New Media (Curare Art Movement) with the support of Swedish Embassy of Athens and Swedish Institute.
In addition, it hosted educational institutions that include in their bachelor programs Video Art as a course, with the aim to familiarize the wide public with the academic character of it (University of Ioannina – Department of Plastic Arts and Sciences of Arts, University of the Aegean – Department of Cultural Technology and Communication, University of Arts Bremen).
Last but not least, uppermost highlight of its international collaborations was the presentation of Bill Viola’s artistry by John Handhart (Consulting Senior Curator for Film and Media Arts Smithsonian American Art Museum). After the end of the screenings VJ – DJ sets took place with special guests: Mikro, Raining Pleasure, Rodes, Elica, Info, Squirk, Pop Eye and Zebra Tracks.
