Πλατεία Κοτζιά – Κτιριακό συγκρότημα πρώην notoshome

Το Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Ψηφιακών Τεχνών της Ελλάδας, Athens Digital Arts Festival (ADAF) ενηλικιώνεται και επιστρέφει για τη 18η ετήσια διοργάνωσή του στο κέντρο της Αθήνας, και συγκεκριμένα στην Πλατεία Κοτζιά για μία πενθήμερη συνάντηση που θα πραγματοποιηθεί από τις 25 έως τις 29 Μαΐου 2022, στο κτιριακό συγκρότημα πρώην notoshome. Η φετινή διοργάνωση εξερευνά τη θεματική “FutuRetro” και μας καλεί να δούμε το μέλλον μέσα από τα μάτια του παρελθόντος, και το παρελθόν μέσα από τα μάτια του μέλλοντος.

Το πολυσυλλεκτικό πρόγραμμα του Φεστιβάλ θα αποτελείται από περισσότερα από 600 FutuRetro έργα που θα εμπίπτουν στις ήδη γνώριμες κατηγορίες του: video art, διαδραστικά και οπτικοακουστικά installation, live performance, animation, έργα εικονικής, επαυξημένης και μεικτής πραγματικότητας (VR/AR/XR), games, digital image, web art, δημιουργικά εργαστήρια, ομιλίες και το παιδικό πρόγραμμα ADAF KIDS, για το πάντα ανήσυχο παιδικό κοινό.

Φυσικά, δεν θα μπορούσε να λείπει μία από τις πιο αγαπημένες κατηγορίες του φεστιβάλ, το ADAF MUSIC, που φέτος θα επεκτείνεται και στο αστικό ιστό και συγκεκριμένα στο ADAF Stage, την σκηνή που θα στηθεί στην Πλατεία Κοτζιά ειδικά για να φιλοξενήσει μοναδικές performance, μουσικές και μη, σε συνδυασμό με Projection Mapping Show πάνω στο Δημαρχιακό Μέγαρο Αθηνών.

Παράλληλα, όπως κάθε χρόνο, το ADAF καλλιεργεί γέφυρες επικοινωνίας και ανταλλαγής ιδεών και έργων με άλλα φεστιβάλ από την Ελλάδα και όλο τον κόσμο, ερευνώντας και παρουσιάζοντας τις παγκόσμιες τάσεις στις ψηφιακές τέχνες.

Μη χάσετε:

• Τα What’s Up Music Doubles στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος ADAF Music, οι καθημερινές μουσικές performance στη σκηνή του ADAF στην πλατεία Κοτζιά (20.00 – 23.00). Συμμετέχουν οι: Λένα Πλάτωνος με τον Die Arkitekt, η Μαρίνα Σάττι με τον Jeph Vanger, η Καίτη Γαρμπή με τις Someone who isn’t me, ο Νίκος Τουλιάτος με τον Στέλιο Γιαννουλάκη, η Κάτια Πάσχου με τον DJ Rico και τους NEBMA, η IOTA PHI με τη VASSIŁINA και πολλοί άλλοι μουσικοί. Το What’s Up Music Doubles φέρνει στη σκηνή απροσδόκητες και μοναδικές συνεργασίες μεταξύ μουσικών από διαφορετικά μουσικά είδη και χρονικές περιόδους, δημιουργώντας ένα πολυδιάστατο κράμα των σύγχρονων μουσικών αναφορών της Ελλάδας.
• Τη συναυλία του good job nicky στο ADAF Stage. Ένα What’s Up Music Doubles – Special Edition, όπου ο διεθνώς αναγνωρισμένος καλλιτέχνης θα πλαισιώσει την live εμφάνιση του με το εντυπωσιακό digital visual show του εικαστικού καλλιτέχνη Misogi (Παρασκευή 27/5, 23:00).
• Το Projection Mapping Show στο Δημαρχείο της Αθήνας, κατά τη διάρκεια των συναυλιών του ADAF Stage.
• To εντυπωσιακό outdoor installation Museum of the Moon, του  Βρετανού καλλιτέχνη Luke Jerram. Το φεγγάρι προσγειώνεται για πρώτη φορά στην Αθήνα! Με διάμετρο 7 μέτρα, το έργο απαρτίζεται από φωτογραφίες σε 120 dpi από την επιφάνεια της σελήνης όπως τις έβγαλε η NASA.
• Την εγκατάσταση Wave της ομάδας Squidsoup στην Πλατεία Κοτζιά, ένα πείραμα φωτός στη μορφή ενός δυναμικού γλύπτου κύματος.
• Το SUPERSELFIE, μια διαδραστική εγκατάσταση του Χιλιανού Felipe Prado στις βιτρίνες του notos στην Αιόλου. Δείτε πως δημιουργείται για ένα λεπτό “ένα κοινωνικό δίκτυο εκτός σύνδεσης”.
• To Lumen II, των Πολωνών IP Group, μια απολαυστική εμβυθιστική εμπειρία στο υπόγειο του πρώην notoshome, που αψηφά την έννοια του χώρου και παίζει με τις ψευδαισθήσεις.
• Την ολοήμερη Cinemateque, όπου έργα Video Art και Animation θα προβάλλονται στον ειδικά διαμορφωμένο χώρο προβολών, με θεματικές συλλογές έργων, αφιερώματα και συνεργασίες.
• Τα ADAF εργαστήρια! Μάθετε τα πάντα για τα NFT έργα τέχνης από τους ειδικούς και πώς να φτιάξεις το δικό σου! Πάρε μέρος στο μουσικό Open Lab για τη σύντμηση της δραματουργίας με την τεχνολογία. Δες το εργαστήριο Classic (and) hip hop: element of an innovative creation με τεχνικές sampling από τον DJ Rico και την Κάτια Πάσχου.
• Τις εντυπωσιακές καινοτόμες και διαδραστικές εγκαταστάσεις της κεντρικής έκθεσης, ανάμεσα τους ξεχωρίζουν οι: Distributive intelligence | A group mind,  του Lukas Truninger, μια χορευτική πίστα για ρομπότ. Το INTERPOLATE, της Αγγελίνας Παπαχατζάκη, ένα εντυπωσιακό wearable που αναπαράγει κιναισθητικά τις κινήσεις μιας χορεύτριας μέσω της τεχνολογίας pneumatics. Το Do you Feel Connected? μια μοναδική εγκατάσταση των infuture.institute εμπνευσμένη από την κουλτούρα του internet και το πώς τα κοινωνικά δίκτυα επηρεάζουν τη ζωή μας. Το Orbis Tertius είναι μια εγκατάσταση για την χαρτογράφηση του πλανήτη Άρη, και τα μεγάλα δεδομένα τα οποία ταξιδεύουν από την επιφάνειά του ως τον γεννητικό απεικονιστή που βρίσκεται στην έκθεση.
• Την απονομή των ΑDAF Awards την Κυριακή 29 Μαΐου στις 21:00.

Πλατεία Κοτζιά – Κτιριακό συγκρότημα πρώην notoshome

Το Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Ψηφιακών Τεχνών της Ελλάδας, Athens Digital Arts Festival (ADAF) ενηλικιώνεται και επιστρέφει για τη 18η ετήσια διοργάνωσή του στο κέντρο της Αθήνας, και συγκεκριμένα στην Πλατεία Κοτζιά για μία πενθήμερη συνάντηση που θα πραγματοποιηθεί από τις 25 έως τις 29 Μαΐου 2022, στο κτιριακό συγκρότημα πρώην notoshome.

Η φετινή διοργάνωση εξερευνά τη θεματική “FutuRetro” και μας καλεί να δούμε το σήμερα μέσα από τα μάτια του παρελθόντος, και το παρελθόν μέσα από τα μάτια του μέλλοντος. Παράλληλα με την κεντρική έκθεση στο εντυπωσιακό κτιριακό συγκρότημα πρώην notoshome, η ομάδα του φεστιβάλ έχει ετοιμάσει ένα ξεχωριστό πρόγραμμα ειδικά για το ADAF Stage, τη σκηνή που θα στηθεί στην Πλατεία Κοτζιά για τέσσερις ημέρες για να φιλοξενήσει τις κατηγορίες ADAF Music και Performance.

Συγκεκριμένα, κατά τη διάρκεια του 18ου Athens Digital Arts Festival, οι επισκέπτες θα έχουν τη δυνατότητα να παρακολουθήσουν το πρόγραμμα του ADAF Stage, που θα αποτελείται από performance και συναυλίες από ισχυρά ονόματα της εγχώριας ποπ και εναλλακτικής σκηνής, που θα πραγματοποιηθούν με την υποστήριξη του What’s Up της Cosmote. Είστε  ευπρόσδεκτοι να παρακολουθήσετε τις διαθέσιμες προς όλους εκδηλώσεις του ADAF, που δύσκολα θα μείνουν απαρατήρητες και είναι σίγουρο ότι θα κλέψουν τις εντυπώσεις και του πιο απαιτητικού θεατή.

ADAF MUSIC

Το ADAF Music είναι μία από τις πιο αγαπημένες κατηγορίες του φεστιβάλ που όπως δηλώνει και το όνομα της είναι αφιερωμένη στην μουσική, αγαπημένοι Έλληνες και διεθνείς καλλιτέχνες θα παρουσιάσουν είτε live, είτε προηχογραφημένα το έργο τους κατά τη διάρκεια του φεστιβάλ. Οι μουσικές performance που θα πραγματοποιηθούν στο  ADAF Stage θα συνοδεύονται με 3D Projection Mapping Show πάνω στο Δημαρχιακό Μέγαρο Αθηνών.

Ξεχωριστή θέση στο φετινό πρόγραμμα του θα έχουν τα What’s Up Music Doubles, ένα πρότζεκτ του φεστιβάλ που γεννήθηκε υπό το πρίσμα της φετινής θεματικής του “FutuRetro”, με βαθιά πειραματική και αναστοχαστική διάθεση προς τη σύγχρονη ελληνική μουσική και τα κύρια χαρακτηριστικά της. Τι θα γινόταν αν μουσικοί με μεγάλη καλλιτεχνική σταδιοδρομία συναντούσαν τη νέα γενιά μουσικών της Ελλάδας; Πώς υπάρχουν στην ψηφιακή εποχή, πιο παραδοσιακά ακούσματα και ήχοι; Ποια η σχέση της προ-ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής με την παραγωγή του σήμερα; Τα What’s Up Music Doubles φέρνουν στο ADAF Stage απρόσμενες και μοναδικές συνεργασίες μεταξύ μουσικών από διαφορετικά είδη και χρονικές περιόδους, δημιουργώντας ένα πολυδιάστατο κράμα από τις μουσικές αναφορές της Ελλάδας.

21:00 | Μαρίνα Σάττι x Jeph Vanger 

Η Μαρίνα Σάττι θα παρουσιάσει live μουσικά κομμάτια από τον τελευταίο της δίσκο, με τίτλο YENNA και θα την ακούσουμε για πρώτη φορά σε συνδυασμό με ηλεκτρονική μουσική, αφού μαζί της στη σκηνή θα βρίσκεται ταυτόχρονα και ο Jeph Vanger. Μαζί θα παρουσιάσουν μία νέα ηχητική προσέγγιση στα μουσικά κομμάτια της Σάττι, ένα κράμα παράδοσης, σύγχρονης ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής και μπάσου.

H IOTA PHI, γνωστή και ως Ilia Darlin, είναι Ελληνίδα τραγουδίστρια, συνθέτρια, μουσικός παραγωγός και βραβευμένη σκηνοθέτις μουσικών βίντεο. Στο παρελθόν, έχει ανοίξει συναυλίες για τους Orbital, τη Florence and the Machine, Marina and the Diamonds και Muse. Στο πλαίσιο των What’s Up Music Doubles, θα μοιραστεί την σκηνή με τη VASSIŁINA, την εξίσου ταλαντούχα μουσικό και παραγωγό, που έχει κερδίσει τις εντυπώσεις με τις avant pop – electronica μελωδίες της και τα υπέροχα φωνητικά της.

Ο Βαγγέλης Σερίφης, γνωστός και ως DJ Rico θα συναντήσει τη σοπράνο Κάτια Πάσχου για να ενώσουν τις δυνάμεις τους, προσφέροντας στο κοινό έναν εκρηκτικό και πρωτοπόρο συνδυασμό όπερας και χιπ χοπ.  Η τεχνική που θα χρησιμοποιήσουν, θα παρουσιαστεί νωρίτερα την ίδια μέρα, στο εργαστήριο Classic (And) Hip Hop: Element Of An Innovative Creation (Κυριακή 29 Μαΐου 2022, 19:00, Δηλώστε συμμετοχή στέλνοντας το ονοματεπώνυμο σας και ένα τηλέφωνο επικοινωνίας στο workshops@adaf.gr. Οι θέσεις είναι περιορισμένες, για αυτό θα τηρηθεί σειρά προτεραιότητας).

Ακόμη, στο πλαίσιο του ADAF Music θα παρουσιαστούν στη σκηνή της Πλατείας Κοτζιάς εξαιρετικοί μουσικοί καλλιτέχνες για να παρουσιάσουν την δουλειά τους σε μία σειρά συναυλιών, που δεν πρέπει να χάσετε:

O Στέλιος Γιαννουλάκης, συνθέτης και σχεδιαστής ήχου, αυτοσχεδιάζει χρησιμοποιώντας modular συνθεσάιζερ, παιχνίδια με μία δημιουργική προσαρμογή κυκλωμάτων σε ηλεκτρονικές συσκευές παραγωγής θορύβου DIY και μηχανές τυμπάνων στο Disco Accuracy (Παρασκευή 27 Μαΐου 2022, 20:00).

Το minimal synth duo, Incirrina θα παρουσιάσει τη μουσική performance  Positronic Brains, μια ενιαία σύνθεση ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής όπου τα ambient ηχοτοπία εναλλάσσονται με κομμάτια και τραγούδια εμπνευσμένα από τρία ανθρωπόμορφα ρομπότ, δημιουργήματα ενός από τους μετρ της επιστημονικής φαντασίας, του Isaac Asimov (Σάββατο 28 Μαΐου 2022, 20:00).

To darkwave-electro, synthwave, post punk σχήμα των Meat Injection παρουσιάζει στην σκηνή του 18ου Athens Digital Arts Festival το πρώτο του album με τίτλο System Anomaly (Κυριακή 29 Μαΐου 2022, 20:00).

PERFORMANCE

Η performance της Myriam Bleau είναι εμπνευσμένη από τα γραπτά της Donna Haraway και τη μεθοδολογια του speculative architecture, το έργο Unsculpt εξερευνά με την τεχνολογία της Τεχνητής Νοημοσύνης (ΑΙ) τις σκηνές της φύσης και της πόλης που δημιουργούνται από τον συνδυασμό των ανθρώπινων και μηχανικών στοιχείων.

Kotzia Square – Building complex of former notoshome

The Athens Digital Arts Festival (ADAF) presents FutuRetro, a celebratory 18th edition and a five-day gathering in the heart of Athens at the historical landmark of Kotzia Square. From the 25th – 29th of May, the former building complex of notoshome and Kotzia Square will be revived to host an innovative exciting program, aiming to present the technological milestones of today through the eyes of the past and as a foreshadowing means for the future.

For five full days, the former building complex of notoshome and Kotzia Square will be revived to host an innovative exciting program with over 600 selected works from local and international artists in 15 categories: Video Art, Animation, Interactive Installations, Virtual and Augmented reality (VR/AR), Games, Digital Image, Web Art, Live Performances, Workshops, Talks, Festivals of the World, ADAF Music and ADAF KIDS, a mini digital arts festival dedicated to children.

This year ADAF is especially excited to present the dynamic comeback of ADAF Music, a curated program that will showcase both local and international artists with live and prerecorded shows for the festival’s audience. The performances will take place on the specially designed ADAF Stage and feature an impressive backdrop, a 3D Projection Mapping Show on the façade of the Athens City Hall.

• What’s Up Music Doubles is the highlight of this year’s ADAF Music’s program of live performances on the specially designed ADAF Stage at Kotzia Square (daily 20:00-23:00). Featured artists: Lena Platonos & Die Arkitekt, Marina Satti & Jeph Vanger, Kaiti Garbi & Someone Who Isn’t Me, Nikos Touliatos & Stelios Giannoulakis, Katia Paschou & DJ Rico, IOTA PHI & VASSIŁINA.

• good job nicky’s concert at ADAF Stage, a Special Edition What’s Up Music Double where good job nicky’s performance will be accompanied live by an impressive digital visual show by the international artist  Misogi (Friday, May 27th at 23:00).

• The Projection Mapping Shows on the façade of the Athens City Hall, during all concerts on the ADAF Stage.

• The impressive outdoor installation Museum of the Moon on Kotzia Square, of British artist Luke Jerram which will be shown for the first time in Athens. This large-scale installation spanning a diameter of 7 meters, consists of 120 dpi images of the moon’s surface as captured by NASA.

• The installation Wave by Squidsoup team of artists on Kotzia Square, a light experiment in the form of a dynamic wave sculpture.

• The interactive installation SUPERSELFIE by Chilean artist Felipe Prado in the window display of notos on Aiolou Street. See how an “offline social network” can be created in one minute.

• Lumen II, an immersive experience that defiantly plays with your sense of space and reality, by the Polish IP Group, in the underground basement of the main building

• The all-day Cinemateque which will be screening curated Video Art and Animation themes by local and international artists in the specially designed space.

• ADAF Workshops.  Learn everything there is to know about NFT artworks but specialists and learn how to make your own. Take part in Open Lab, a music workshop on fusing drama and technology. Check out the workshop “Classic (and) hip hop: element of an innovative creation” with sampling techniques by DJ Rico and Katia Paschou.

• The impressive and innovative interactive installations featured in the main exhibition. Distributive intelligence | A group mind, by Lukas Truninger, a dance stage for robots. INTERPOLATE by Aggelina Papachatzaki, an impressive wearable which reproduces kinesthetically the movements of a dance through pneumatic technology. Do you Feel Connected? A unique installation by infuture.institute, inspired by internet culture and how social media influences our life. Orbis Tertius, an installation about the mapping of Mars and the large data travels from its surface to the genetic illustrator in the exhibition.

• ADAF Awards Ceremony on Sunday at 21:00

Kotzia Square – Building complex of former notoshome

 

The Athens Digital Arts Festival (ADAF) presents FutuRetro, a celebratory 18th edition and a five-day gathering in the heart of Athens at the historical landmark of Kotzia Square. From the 25th – 29th of May, the building complex of former notoshome and Kotzia Square will be revived to host an innovative exciting program, aiming to present the technological milestones of today through the eyes of the past and as a foreshadowing means for the future.

 

Alongside the main exhibition taking place in the impressive building complex of former notoshome, Kotzia Square will be reimagined as an outdoor event space in order to host the curated programme of ADAF Stage, a stage which will be built to support the events of ADAF Music and Performance categories for four days.

 

During the 18th Athens Digital Arts Festival the ADAF Stage, with the support of Cosmote What’s Up, will host a variety of creative performance acts as well as concerts from well established local artists coming from the genres of pop and alternative music.

ADAF MUSIC

One of the most beloved categories makes its return for the 18th edition of the Athens Digital Arts Festival. As part of the ADAF MUSIC category, both local and international artists will have the chance to showcase their work by performing live or pre-recorded shows for the festival’s audience. These music performance acts will take place at the ADAF Stage and they will be also complemented by an impressive 3D Projection Mapping Show at the wall of the Athens City Hall.

 

In this year’s agenda, the What’s Up Music Doubles project holds a special place. A project that spawned from this year’s “FutuRetro” theme, with a deeply experimental and reflective attitude towards greek music and its features.

What if artists with many years of artistic experience met up with the new blood? How do traditional sounds exist in the digital age? What is the connection between the electro genre, before the introduction of electronic elements in music production, with the production of the modern era? The What’s Up Music Doubles project brings together musicians from different genres and eras in the ADAF Stage, creating a multidimensional amalgam from Greece’s musical world.

Thursday, May 25th 2022

21:00 | Marina Satti x Jeph Vanger

Marina Satti will host a live show performing songs from her most recent album, YENNA, while combining traditional with contemporary electronic music for the first time in her career. Jeph Vanger will perform with Marina, adding elements of electronic music and reinterpreting the songs of YENNA.

 

22:00 | Kaiti Garbi x Someone Who Isn’t Me

A unique performance featuring Kaiti Garbi, a long established Greek artist and Someone Who Isn’t Me, a music project which has become a favorite of the local alternative scene.

21:00 | IOTA PHI x VASSIŁINA

IOTA PHI, also known as Ilia Darlin, is a Greek singer, songwriter, music producer and an award-winning video director. As a support act she has shared the stage with artists such as Orbital, Florence and the Machine, Marina and the Diamonds and Muse. As part of What’s Up Music Doubles, IOTA PHI will perform alongside VASSIŁINA, an equally talented musician and producer who has gained a lot of attention thanks to her avant-pop melodies and capturing vocals.

 

Saturday, May 28th 2022

21:00 | Pan Pan x Kalliopi Mitropoulou

A live mixtape consisting of various songs from Pan Pan’s and Kalliopi’s discography, classical compositions from the 17th century as well as top hits from the 20th century, all orchestrated with live sequencing, synths, violins, turntables, voices and sounds.

 

22:00 | Lena Platonos x Die Arkitekt

The performance will be consisted of the presentation of Die Arkitekt’s new album and cover versions of some classic hits from Lena Platonos’s discography.

 

Sunday, May 29th 2022

21:30 | Nikos Touliatos x Stelios Giannoulakis

Nikos Toulatos, a well known musician with a career of 50 years and with great experience in percussion instruments, will meet up with the musician, composer and sound designer, Stelios Giannoulakis for the first time ever in a musical extravaganza.

 

23:00 | DJ Rico x Katia Paschou

Vaggelis Serifis, also known as DJ Rico, will be teaming up with the soprano Katia Paschou, combining opera with hip hop music. This technique will be showcased earlier that day at the Classic (And) Hip Hop: Element Of An Innovative Creation workshop (Sunday, May 29th 2022, 19:00. Apply by sending your name and a contact number at workshops@adaf.gr. Places are limited, so priority will be given on first come first served basis.

 

Furthermore, a number of wondrous musicians will be presenting their work in a series of events that should not, in any way, be missed:

 

Stelios Giannoulakis, composer and sound designer, improvises with the use of a modular synthesizer, games with creative calibration of circuits, DIY sound making devices and drum machines at Disco Accuracy (Friday, May 27th 2022, 20:00).

 

During the Positronic Brains performance, by the minimal synth duo Incirrina, we will be introduced to electro music, but with a twist. There, the ambient soundscapes alternate with musical pieces inspired by three human shaped robots, created by Isaac Asimov, the master of the sci-fi realm. (Saturday, May 28th 2022, 20:00).

 

Meat Injection, the darkwave-electro, synthwave, post punk band, will present its first album “System Anomaly” (Sunday, May 29th 2022, 22:00).

 

PERFORMANCE

Myriam Bleau’s performance is inspired by Donna Haraway scripts, as well as the methodology of speculative architecture. With the aid of the Artificial Intelligence (AI), her work Unsculpt, explores natural and urban scenes with the combination of humane and robotic elements.

The Athens Digital Arts Festival (ADAF) presents FutuRetro, a celebratory 18th edition set as a five-day gathering in the heart of Athens, at the historical landmark of Kotzia Square.

 

From the 25th-29th May, the former notoshome building complex and Kotzia Square will host our children’s program, ADAF Kids. This year’s mini festival dedicated to children is sure to attract not only our little friends, but also people of all ages with its colorful animation, workshops, installations, games, 3D VR experiences, worldwide adventures and travel, innovative friendly robots, as well as an interactive 360° fairytale.

 

Our 18th edition’s mission is to help broaden children’s knowledge and

sharpen their critical thinking, all that while simultaneously putting a smile on their faces.

 

Not to miss :

 

The Line Wobbler, a game by the German designer Robin Baumgarten, with a one dimensional hardware consisting of a controller made by an iron spring and a long LED strip. This  experiment has won many awards due to its minimal design, its use of original input mechanisms and the way with which it can integrate its environment.

 

The Floooor, by Swedish musician Hakan Lidbo, a 36 sensor board game connected to a music program and speakers. The game’s carpet awaits the festival’s guests to create a new musical composition and explore different sound patterns through an improvised choreography.

 

Two Virtual Reality pieces designed especially for children, are set to transform the film watching experience by immersing them into that fantastical world.

Pawel Szarzynsk’s Cosmogonic is a one of a kind virtual reality experience, based on Stanislav Lem’s science fiction work that explores humanity and social justice through images of distant planets and mechanical beings.

In Tops of Memory II Illusion, both children and adults wearing VR glasses will be able to witness cartoons drawn on painting materials creating a unique and dynamic experience. What is it that people remember when they look back to the past?

 

Somewhere by Florian Panzer is an interactive 360° fairytale. The goal: Go along with little Unrund for the most fun experience of his lifetime! This installation works as an invitation for children to face new and unfamiliar situations with the help of toys. This way they can overcome the fear of the unknown and understand that it might not always be as scary as they think.

A specially designed screening space operating on the sixth floor of the former notoshome building complex, is set to project daily short animated films from all around the world, created especially for children and pre-teens.

Our program is overjoyed to be hosting yet again children-creators that have submitted their works for the second consecutive year. Talented and ambitious children aged nine to seventeen are here to show us that creativity knows no age.

On the subject of children-creators, ADAF is honored to be collaborating with Animasyros – International Animation Festival, one of the most important animation film festivals,which kindly granted us the final children’s creations made  from its educational workshops. During these workshops, children and teenagers working with trainers were able to create the most imaginative animations. During this year’s ADAF, we will all have the pleasure of enjoying them together, right in the heart of Athens.

 

ADAF Kids workshops:

The Athens Digital Arts Festival has prepared three one of a kind workshops for elementary school children that will help them explore the creative aspects of modern digital culture whilst  acting as an entrance to the world of innovative science and technology.

 

Robotics Workshop – Robotic Sunflower: We are currently living in a robotic world, and we don’t just mean the handy “robot vacuum”. The accessibility factor , the economic and, most importantly, the ecological impact of new technologies  have made Robotics and Automation an integral part of our everyday lives. Come and take a closer look at an ecological application of robotics related to renewable energy.

 

3D Printing Workshop: The 3D printing technology has come a long way to building houses and is even destined to build whole villages on Mars! All one has to do is create the desired design and then the printer can do everything on its own, in a process that  fully captures the spirit of the information age. Imagine, design, edit and print whatever you want! Learn to use the programs, machines and basic principles to print your own designs at home!

Sound Design Workshop – Design your own sound: Presenting this workshop are Cinema Alive’s  Alterkids. ThinKarma, in parallel with his upcoming live at the 18th ADAF which references his own Interspecies as well as our workshop Sound Design for Kids, approaches the virtual demystification in which a child has entered after direct interaction and educates the child with the same tools that his or her digital hero or favorite digital game will use.

The Athens Digital Arts Festival (ADAF) presents FutuRetro, a celebratory 18^th edition and a five-day gathering in the heart of Athens at the historical landmark of Kotzia Square.

From the 25^th – 29^th of May, the building complex of notoshome and Kotzia Square will be revived to host an innovative exciting program with works from 12 categories: Video Art, Animation, Interactive Installations, Virtual and Augmented reality (VR/AR), Games, Digital Image, Web Art, Live Performances, Workshops, Talks and ADAF KIDS, a mini digital arts festival dedicated to children. This year ADAF is especially excited to present a curated program for the ADAF MUSIC category.

The theme, FutuRetro, focuses on science fiction, retrofuturism and futurology and aims to present the technological milestones of today through the eyes of the past and as a foreshadowing means for the future. Marking its third year as a Hybrid Festival, the online edition of the festival, ADAF ONLINE, will be launched in the fall of 2022 as an extension to the physical edition and in an effort to make the festival and its works accessible to a truly limitless, global audience.

With the selection process in its final stage, ADAF’s international open call has yet again received an overwhelming number of submissions, 5,700 works from artists, scientists, intellectuals, and technologists from around the world. Parallel to the open call, the Festival continues to expand its network by cultivating bridges with local and international festivals, universities and institutions to exchange knowledge, art and to showcase global trends in digital arts.

Call For Volunteers

Volunteers are a vital part of Athens Digital Arts Festival. Every year, plenty of creative people join the Festival’s team in order to develop their abilities and help in all sectors of the festival, such as in the audience reception, exhibition set-up and production as well as in guided tours.

By participating at ADAF you will have the opportunity to live a unique experience and contribute, according to your dexterity, skills, interests and availability, to all creative and organizational processes of the 18^th edition of the festival. If you are over 18, please fill in the form. Deadline: 30.4.2022

At the end of the festival, all volunteers will receive a certificate of participation.

A few words about the location

The Athens Digital Arts Festival traditionally takes place during spring in the Historic Center of Athens, each time activating and reinventing city landmarks and spaces, engaging the local community and creating new paths where one can explore and experience the city in a new and unique way.  This year, ADAF selects the city landmark of Kotzia Square and the notoshome building complex to host its exciting program.

The main exhibition will take place in an impressive building complex, of over 12,000 m2 on Kotzia Square, where notoshome department store was housed from 2003 until its relocation in 2018 in the notos beauty & fashion department store (6^th & 7^th floor, Stadiou & Aiolou Str). To celebrate the 18^th Athens Digital Arts Festival and as an invitation to its customers and pedestrians, the notos department store will feature an impressive interactive installation in one of its windows.

Culture Path invites the visitor to wander between iconic art pieces from all over Greece at the Greek Pavilion of Dubai Expo 2020 in March 2022.

Dubai Expo 2020 is the largest exhibition to be held in the Arab World. It presents 192 country pavilions that offer immersive cultural experiences and highlight the unique elements of every country. The Greek Pavilion’s theme Greece | Tomorrow | Today invites the visitor to a creative journey through a step-by-step exploration of significant pillars of Greek present and future.

The Ministry of Culture and Sports takes a digital and creative leap and in collaboration with the Athens Digital Arts Festival (ADAF) create Culture Path, an Augmented Reality (AR) experience. Αn interactive cultural stroll, where technology of Augmented Reality (AR), facilitates the intersection between the cultural heritage of Greece with modern and contemporary creation. The 18th International Festival for Digital Arts in Greece Athens Digital Arts Festival (ADAF) invites the artistic, technological, scientific -and not only- world to submit their proposals for its hybrid (online and physical) edition.

Due to popular demand, we are extending the deadline  for  ADAF 2022  till the 15th of March 2022.

Titled “FutuRetro” the festival calls us to see the future through the eyes of the past and the past through the eyes of the future.

Exploring the relationship of the past and the future and by interacting with the state-of-the-art technology and science our festival returns with its second hybrid edition.
