A Sea in the City
An experience of art, technology, and ecological awakening that changed us.
For one day only, the sea flooded the heart of Athens.
On September 25, the Athens Digital Arts Festival (ADAF), through its action “A Sea in the City,” transformed the Kypseli Municipal Market into a living ecosystem of art, technology, and environmental awareness.
More than 2,500 visitors wandered among luminous jellyfish, sounds that reacted to their presence, and interactive artworks that seemed to breathe.
In the educational workshops, children learned to create animations inspired by the sea, while adults became artists themselves—crafting interactive jellyfish from reused plastic bottles, later added to the large-scale installation Medusa Valley by COSMOTE TELEKOM.
Through VR and holographic experiences, visitors dived into underwater worlds, witnessed the overpopulation of jellyfish take shape, and felt the climate crisis—not as a statistic, but as a lived experience.
A powerful panel discussion on marine biodiversity and art, held as part of the European Co-Vision program, brought together scientists, artists, and citizens to explore a vital question: How can we restore balance with the sea?
The evening culminated in a mesmerizing live performance by Papazo and his guests, accompanied by the hypnotic video art “Corrosion>>Commotion” by Greta, merging sound and image into a single, immersive current.
The jellyfish, the emblem of the event, came alive before our eyes—a living symbol reminding us that nature responds, warns, and asks to be heard.
Those who were there left changed: more aware, more connected, with the sea closer to their hearts.
Because this wasn’t just an exhibition—it was a call for change.
And this was only the beginning.
The journey continues—with the largest participatory and interactive installation ever created in Greece by COSMOTE TELEKOM, coming this January at Technopolis City of Athens.
There, the sea will return… and invite us once again to dive in
